Hey friends! Today I am going to share my latest find: an antique mall vintage sign. I was so lucky to have found it. The shop owner was ready to part with it and I was ready to purchase this amazing piece. It was fate in the making.
Lately, I have been doing some major decluttering and figuring out what I really love. After all, a home should be filled with pieces that you truly love and represent you, right? I have also been working towards a simple style of decorating. So, much of what I have in my home I like, but I do not truly love. And, when you have decor that you just like, you tend to never be content with those pieces. I find myself shuffling them around throughout the week wondering where the best spot is for them. Unfortunately, the frustration sets in and many pieces end up on shelves in the basement waiting. Waiting for what?
I know this can be part of the decorating process, but I feel if I would simplify with pieces that I truly love, decorating would be a much pleasant experience. The house would be represented as a home rather than a building full of stuff. Do any of you feel that way? Do you feel stuck with the pieces you have?
So, within each room I have been emptying it out, mostly. Then, making decisions on whether I like it or love it. Kinda like the HGTV show, Love It or List It, but with decorating pieces instead of homes.
This antique mall vintage sign stopped me dead in my tracks when I found it. I love typography, especially the freehand text. This vintage sign had so much character from the tilt and sway of each letter to the chippy background. I also like that little bit of history to it as well. The vintage sign tells a story. I love having pieces in my home that have a story to tell.
Tips on preserving the vintage sign finish:
(This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Please see my full disclosure.)
- I have enough experience with chippy pieces to know that they need to be sealed before using in the home. I love using this sealer for keeping the chippy paint look without the hassle of flaking. This sealer also does an excellent job of sealing in any odor that could have formed with age. To apply, I use my favorite paint brush and just give it a few even coats.
- I also want to keep this vintage sign out of the sun as much as possible to prevent fading. The sealer will protect it as well.
So, here is my vintage sign on my makeshift shelf that the hubby created out of old posts and some boards. I will be editing more pieces out of this room, adding a rug, and eventually purchasing two white IKEA slipcovered loveseats to make the room feel a bit more cozy and bright. I think it is the perfect spot for it don’t you? White, wood, and vintage finds are some of my favorite things these days! I was lucky enough to find those chunky wood candle holders awhile back. Recently, I found another that I absolutely love! I will be adding it to my collection.
And, I know that vintage signs like this can be difficult to find! Which is why I found a few signs that I thought had that handcrafted look and feel.
I think you will be excited to check these out!
Which is your favorite?
