Farmhouse Fall Home Tour

Hey everyone and happy fall to you! I have been waiting for the crisp air to once again join us. I am very fond of warm cozy sweaters, mugs full of warm beverages, and snuggling up with a good book. Today, I am so excited to be joining some very talented bloggers in a fall blog hop. My farmhouse fall home tour is filled with simple fall touches of natural elements and textures. This farmhouse tour proves that you don’t  have to spend a ton of money to create beautiful seasonal vignettes.

If you are new to Dandelion Patina blog, welcome! I am so glad you are here to share in my obsession with simple farmhouse style. I hope you will feel inspired.

Farmhouse Fall Home Tour with natural elements and textures

As I have mentioned, the autumn season is my favorite. It is a time when I tend to start “nesting”. I suppose it is a natural way of getting everything ready for the winter months; gathering the garden harvest, simmering soups and baking cookies on the weekends, and layering blankets and bedding to snuggle the little ones in at night.

Farmhouse Fall Home Tour Entry

bless this mess painted sign by hunt and gather goods

I recently did some rearranging in our entryway/foyer. This space was originally a closet, but because of the tight fit, we removed it. We now have added tongue and groove plank to the walls. It is such a wonderful feeling to have a more open and airy foyer.

(This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. Please see full disclosure.)

I did have a larger white hutch in this space, but I have now pared down to a small trunk and this amazing painted sign from Hunt and Gather Goods. Believe me, our mess needs all the blessings it can get!

A simple farmhouse style decor touch was created with this DIY wood easel.

farmhouse fall home tour with industrial pipe shelving

My all time favorite farmhouse style DIY we did in our home are these vertical industrial pipe shelves. Lately, I have been contemplating sanding them down raw and then bleaching the pieces. I can never leave well enough alone! For the farmhouse fall home tour, I styled these by simply adding dried hydrangeas from my backyard, a few white pumpkins, and dried artichokes. My ironstone gravy boat collection is growing too. Love this part of our home.

farmhouse fall home tour picnic basket with fresh basil bouquet

Farmhouse Fall Home Tour Dining Room

Our dining table centerpiece is simply a vintage picnic basket with a bouquet of fresh basil from the garden. This is the last of the basil and I wanted to get it inside before there was a freeze. The dining area smells amazing! And, when I need a bit of a room freshener all I need to do is sweep my hand across the leaves. Not to mention easy access for cooking as well.

Our dining room opens up right into the living room.

Farmhouse Fall Home Tour Living Room

I can’t tell you how much I am loving our IKEA Ektorp sofa and chairs! I was a bit hesitant to make the purchase due to kiddos and pooches. Ya know…dirty hands and paws. But, it really is satisfying to pull the slipcovers off, wash them, and hang them on the line. They look brand new! You just can’t do that with a normal upholstered sofa. I will never go back to the traditional sofas…upholstered or leather.

farmhouse fall neutral living room

I tried to keep the fall decorating consistent throughout the spaces in our home. It was pretty easy with all the dried hydrangeas I was able to use from our shrubs. If you ever wonder what type of shrubs to plant in your landscape, limelight hydrangeas are the best!

To end the farmhouse fall tour, I thought I would share one of my pumpkin finds. I like to name my pumpkins, crazy I know. This one is Bad Hair Day! I fell in love with her funky stem. For me, it is all about the stem first, then the pumpkin. This gal knows how to be wild and crazy in her own way. And, on those Monday mornings when my hair is not cooperating, just know I am showing my wild and crazy side.

line

To begin my home tour, I want to share our Christmas tree. It is the heart of Christmas decorating in our home. This year I did break down and purchase an artificial pre-lit tree. After the fiasco last year with our first tree dying and then the second tree being in constant shed mode…and dying (sigh), we were ready for a stay green, shed-free, pack-away-box type of Christmas tree. The kiddos were disappointed, but we will still take them over to the tree farm for a train ride and hot cocoa by the fire. Our covered front porch needs a tree anyway, so we will be decorating it for the birds this year!

Along my decorating journey over the past few weeks, I came to realize something and I am ready to confess to you all. I am a gift tag addict! Yup. I went a little crazy with gift tags this go around. But, I love their versatility. I used gift tags from the tree to the table…and back again. Should we play a game of I Spy? I bet you can’t find them all! Ha.

A huge thank you to the Dollar Spot at Target, Michael’s, and Canvas Corp Brands!

Fall Home Tour

Hey friends! I am sharing my farmhouse fall home tour today.

I have been waiting for this day all week!

The day I get to share my fall home tour with you and all my blogging friends.

Happy Fall to all of you.

Mother Nature seems a bit unsure which way she wants to go with the seasons…summer seems to linger with the warmer temperatures while some of the trees have started to show a change in colors.

farmhouse fall home tour via Dandelion Patina

My fall decorating style

My fall decorating style has changed over the years. Last year, I went all out with tons of brightly colored foliage and traditional colors.

This was last years rustic fall mantel.

Currently, I have decided to go with my heart and that is definitely with a more neutral color palette and natural elements.

Once the fall season starts our family tends to go on quite a few nature walks.

I love bringing natural elements into the home, as I did with this room, natural elements for fall.

I am content with finding treasures from nature to decorate with. As my kiddos grow, they are still enjoying the walks and love climbing on fallen trees along the path. We collected a few pieces to decorate with for our fall tablescape, so let’s start with that.

Farmhouse Fall Home Tour Tablescape

fall farmhouse tablescape dandelion patina

On our nature walk, we found the most incredible moss right off the path by the river.

The moss was growing in perfectly imperfect little mounds and was so easy to pull up.

So, I placed the moss in some small ironstone dishes I found at one of my favorite boutiques. These dishes were displayed on top of old fishing floats. The texture of them is so amazing!

We also pulled some bark off a red pine. The pieces just flaked off and each was unique in texture and shape.

farmhouse fall home tour with a neutral farmhouse palette via dandelionpatina.com

I created some seeded eucalyptus arrangements to flank this phenomenal jarrahdale pumpkin.

This type of pumpkin is my all time favorite.

In addition to its amazing muted green-blue color, it has these soft almost distressed looking white stripes. It was a great find!

fall farmhouse home tour with neutral soft green tablescape via dandelionpatina.com

I also love incorporating a touch of whimsy because it is fun for my kiddos. And, who doesn’t love polka dots and decoupage??

Just for fun, I had a few bed springs laying around the basement to plop the whimsical fruit into. These were used to create vertical interest.

fall farmhouse tablescape via dandelionpatina.com

And I am totally crushing on plaid this season…well and last season. So, I reused this plaid shirting fabric I found last fall. I love the color palette.

fall farmhouse home tour tablescape via dandelionpatina.com

And those fun pumpkin leaves with little messages of thankful and grateful…those are a free printable from the lovely Kristen at Ella Claire.

I fell in love with them and I have a few projects in the works incorporating these leaves.

Vintage postal sorter

Let’s head over to that vintage postal sorter that stands in the corner of our cozy dining area.

I found this piece on Craigslist. A hobby farmer had been using it to store shoes in their mudroom. I got a great deal on it because it needed a good cleaning and a paint makeover.

vintage postal sorter farmhouse fall home tour via dandelionpatina.com

I have a real weakness for pieces with little cubbies. I painted some dollar store pumpkins white and simply decorated this postal sorter for fall.

birch branches in farmhouse style vase farmhouse fall home tour via dandelionpatina.com

We found these birch branches along the bridge on our nature walk. I just pulled the leaves off so that the focus could be on the branches.

Ready to cozy up in the living room?

Living Room

neutral farmhouse style living room farmhouse fall home tour via dandelionpatina.com

This is our light and bright neutral living room. I kept the decorating simple in this space. Mostly because this is where we spend quite a bit of time as a family and with young kiddos it needs to stay simple.

farmhouse style living room via dandelionpatina.com

I focused on creating layers, texture, and variations of neutral tones.

farmhouse style living room via dandelionpatina.com

Can you tell I have a pillow obsession?

Most days these are lying all over the floor. The rest of the family does not share in my love of pillows on the couch. They would much rather use them for pillow fights than any sort of decorative purpose.

dried hydrangeas and acorns. simple farmhouse style fall decorating via dandelionpatina.com

My limelight hydrangeas were amazing this year! I was able to give quite a few of my bushes a haircut and you really can’t even tell I took any plumes off. They are beautiful free decorating materials. I also shopped around our house this year for most of my decorating pieces just as I did with my neutral fall mantel.

I am so very thankful that you joined me for my little farmhouse fall home tour. We wish you could be here to share a piece of apple pie!

and on and on the song goes…..

{Calling birds, Gold Rings, Geese-a-Laying, Swans-a-Swimming, Maids-a-Milking, Ladies Dancing, Lords-a-Leaping, Pipers Piping, Drummers Drumming}

My oldest daughter came home from school

complaining about this song.

She had participated in singing this classic during music class last week.

She said the song went on forever and she almost ran out of breath.

Heavens.

What an 8 year old has to endure, hey?

line

We are down to just under 8 sleeps until Christmas!

I have participated in a few home tours this season and will be linking to those further down in the post.

I also will be sharing links to other fabulous bloggers holiday walks!

Grab yourself a cozy blanket and a cup of hot cocoa…

…let the sleeps ’til Christmas walk begin.

sleeps until christmas tour

For our sleeps ’til Christmas walk

the bedrooms were decorated simply.

I wanted a festive and fresh lakeside feel for the decor.

And I didn’t want to go overboard with decorating…

tight budget with only 8 days left until Christmas.

MASTER BEDROOM

master bedroom

Our master bedroom is light and airy.

Soft whites, creams, and green blues are the color palette.

Simple icicle lights added to the headboard (old door) give a seasonal twinkle

and make the room look magical at night.

An old table was separated and used as nightstands to flank the master bed.

christmas in master bedroom

My favorite mercury glass lamps flank the bed.

And the galvanized mirrors, used as trays here,

give that rustic feel.

Foam snowflakes add some winter character to the wall behind the vintage black iron bed.

My 6 year old is a huge Frozen fan,

this is a subtle way incorporate that into the decor.

YOUNG GIRLS BEDROOM

My oldest daughters’ room has a soft color palette of gray, greens, lavender.

A mini Christmas tree on a silver platter adds that festive feel.

The bedspread resembles subtle snowflakes.

A vintage chippy white window becomes wall art above the bed.

Soft white lights were added to give that magical Christmas feel.

Hand painted nightstands in shades of lavender and gray

were refreshed from an outdated 70’s look.

A vintage cream chandelier hangs above the bed.

The smokey gray crystals sparkle in the light.

And of course, what would life be

without our golden retriever making herself comfortable.

As she counts down the last sleeps ’til Christmas

she would like to wish you Happy Holidays…

….and hopes you can find time to relax and enjoy, as she does.
