We have updated our living room to reflect a Modern Farmhouse style. It is funny how personal styles change over time. I am currently in a refined modern farmhouse mode with a coastal vibe. I have decluttered quite a bit over the last few months making sure I am surrounded by the things I love. This allows me to switch around decor from room to room. So, let’s take a peek at what the room is looking like so far.
I was lucky enough to find the super large vintage oak wall cabinet on Craigslist for under $150. I was super stoked! It needed so much work to be worthy enough to come into our home. So much elbow grease went into this piece. We tore off the rotten back and replaced it with wood bead board. We also sanded the entire piece on the inside and stained it again. I didn’t mess with the painted outside just in case there was lead paint. I painted over it with a quality primer/paint from Lowe’s. Then, I sprayed the drawer pulls with a brass spray paint.
One of my very favorite pieces that I purchased was the rug from Well Woven. It is called the Sheffield Gray Traditional Rug This rug is so forgiving when it comes to spills and dirt tracking. Also, this piece is so easy to clean. Not to mention soft on the tootsies! The rug ties the entire modern farmhouse style room together giving the aesthetic a modern, but traditional vibe.
How many of you use fashion accessories in your home decor? I love searching for larger scarves to drape on the furniture like a throw. This lightweight black and white scarf from Aerie provides an extra layer while the AC is on! It also looks pretty nifty against the white furniture. Plus, the scarves are so much less expensive than throws. They are a total win in the functional category as well.
Now, let’s talk about my favorite candle company of all time….1820 House. These candles are so amazing! I love the aesthetic vibe of the candles, their scent, how they burn clean, and the different scent combinations they come in. I have to tell you that I have quite the collection of them. Some of my favorite scents are Bourbon Apple, Oatmeal Stout, Warm Milk and Vanilla….I could go on and on. There are so many! They fit in perfectly with my Modern Farmhouse vibe. I can’t wait to visit their brick and mortar storefront one of these days.
Overall, I am pretty pleased with how this space is evolving. As much as I love Modern Farmhouse style, I also incorporate coastal elements, Scandinavian pieces, and a bit of interesting global decor accents. I don’t think a person needs to stick to one certain style as long as the look is cohesive and is something that you love.
What is your favorite design style? Do you stick to one style or do you incorporate a mix?
