Hey friends! Today I want to share our cozy farmhouse style living room with you. I have really never shared a good before and after of the space or our entire home. So, I thought I would start sharing each room and how it has evolved. The spaces will probably never really be finished, but they are a work in progress. And, what fun would it be for a home decor blogger to have a totally finished room? I really love how this room is evolving into a light and airy farmhouse style living room. I hope you will too.
Come with me and take a look….
THE BEFORE OF THE FARMHOUSE STYLE LIVING ROOM:
Pretty typical of the 90’s right? When we first walked through the house I really had to focus on the layout, the backyard, and the space of the rooms. I was hit by mauve with every step I took. But, I knew this was all cosmetic and paint does wonders!
THE AFTER OF OUR FARMHOUSE STYLE LIVING ROOM:
This is what our farmhouse style living room currently looks like. I totally lightened up the walls with Benjamin Moore Coastal Fog. We removed all the mauve carpet and added laminate wood flooring, which by the way was a pretty cheap temporary fix.
We I hope to do a complete gut on the kitchen in 5-7 years. At that time, all the flooring will be replaced with hand scraped hardwoods. This living room space will then become our dining room with a fireplace where the TV is placed in the below photo.
Our farmhouse style living room currently houses an IKEA Ektorp sofa and two chairs. I LOVE my Ektorps! I don’t know how I lived without them for so long. The are so versatile and I am so happy with the ability to throw the slipcovers in the wash after dirty feet or hands have touched them.
One of my favorite all time farmhouse style accessories in our living room is this ‘dream of’ pillow cover. It really does say it all doesn’t it? Who doesn’t dream of shiplap walls, chippy paint, subway tile, farmhouse sinks, and barn doors?

I bet you are wondering where you can grab one for yourself? I got ya covered!
Here ya go: I dream of shiplap farmhouse pillow
I have been crushing on ironstone basins lately. These bowls are so simple and substantial. They need no extra decorating in or around them. Each can stand on its own. I found a few of my favorites here.
Another accessory I love to use in our home are these simple clear glass cloches. This is one of a few collections in my home.
They house a variety of textural pieces from a vintage camera to fishing floats.
I hope you enjoyed a little peek into our farmhouse style living room. I look forward to you following along as this space evolves and as I share other spaces of our home with you as well.
