5 Fresh Fruit Popsicles

Today, I am sharing 5 fresh fruit popsicles with you. When fresh fruit is abundant during the warm weather months, these frozen treats will hit the spot. These are some of the most refreshing popsicles I have seen. I am looking forward to trying out each recipe with the kiddos.

Delicious fresh fruit popsicles ideas to keep you cool all summer long!

We have been attempting to grow our own blueberries in the backyard. Each year the blueberry plants grow bigger, producing more fruit than the previous year. Blueberries are a favorite in our home and this fresh fruit popsicle recipe looks delicious and healthy.

Speaking of healthy, these fruit filled healthy popsicles remind me of the Fourth of July. My kids love a little surprise in their popsicles and fresh fruit is the way to go.

My husband makes mango smoothies on a regular basis for the kids. Mangos are so tasty and combined with blueberries,  I think these fresh fruit popsicles would be a home run with the entire family. They look like a smoothie on a stick don’t they?

Freedom and Baseball Caps

What does the American dream mean to you?

The American dream is all about Freedom and Baseball Caps in our home presently. My girls are 9 and 7 and it is all about their “freedom” these days. The freedom to where a baseball cap under their bike helmet. The freedom to mix Lucky Charms with Fruity Pebbles and call that breakfast. The freedom to watch Teen Nick where the shows are all about kissing, boyfriends, and farting…yes, farting. And when mom turns on the parental controls…”What for mom, this is America, you know!”

We all love our freedom and most days we take it for granted.

Sometimes, freedom needs to be given through choices in order to grow.

My daughters’ have been all about bringing purses along with them when we run errands. There is an ongoing contest in our home between them about who has the most money. And then there is the ‘I have ten $1 bills so that is more money than a single $10 bill’ debate.

We were in Target the other day and my youngest insisted on a Fourth of July baseball cap. It was $15 and I already had enough needs wants in the cart. I told her she could have it if she used her own money. The “but, Mom” started along with the sad brown puppy eyes. And to top it off,  she modeled it for me, strutting down the aisle like she was taking over the red carpet.

I tell ya, I had to look away. I just knew I would give in to the cuteness.

But, Mom stood strong! And freedom was given through choices….for both of us!

There always seems to be growing pains with freedom.  But, I have to admit, I am looking forward to seeing her free spirit and all of her cuteness during the July 4th festivities in a few days!

And because we will be celebrating our freedom in a few days, I am sharing this fun paper straw tassel garland over at Hoosier Homemade. I hope you will stop over and say hello. The tutorial is easy peasy to create and will look great in all your Fourth of July vignettes and more!

Let freedom reign!

What would you do with a printers tray?

I love printers trays….

and a good treasure hunting weekend. I seriously could go every week and walk around for the entire morning and be ready to go again the next day. I find so much inspiration….and junk. Believe me, there is quite a bit of junk. But, there are plenty of diamonds in the rough too!

styling a vintage printers tray with boxwood wreaths and scrabble tiles

One such diamond that caught my eye a few treasure hunts back was this printers tray. It is on the smaller side in size, which is what I was looking for. It also had great details-metal hardware and overall good condition.

I also recently found this fun rolling pin. Does anyone know the history on this style?

elements to styling a vintage printers tray

My husband thought that this was used for cutting pasta noodles.

Was he right?

Anyway, I love how the edges are worn down in some areas. I love to think about who was using these pieces and where they came from.

And isn’t this old metal coffee scoop sensational? I am a typography and coffee junkie, so when I spotted this little treasure, I knew it was coming home with me!

So, I ended up putting these items together in a wall vignette. I have been pretty stumped on how to incorporate the printers tray into my home decor. I know it can look fabulous as an architectural salvage piece on the wall, but I was just looking for more. And I think I figured it all out…..

So, if you would follow me over to Bless’er House, I will show you how to style a vintage printers tray (click here)! I have to tell you I am so excited with how the little vignette turned out!

Have a great week!

Pop of Color Summer Mantel

Who loves adding a pop of color in their homes?

It is fun, but for me, it needs to be the right pop, ya know what I am saying?! I need a pop of color that looks natural and beautiful against my coastal fog walls, soft gray mantel, and wood tone accessories. What could blend in so well with those colors and pop at the same time?

Well, that would be green!

Do you want to enjoy a pop of color in your home this summer but don't want to break the bank doing it? This is a simple summer mantel showcasing Mother Nature's greenery from your backyard and some gorgeous Birch Lane bud vases from Wayfair.

This is my pop of color for my summer mantel. Mother Nature is the best designer in the world. She has the color wheel mastered! So, taking advice from Mother Nature I brought some natural elements into my home. Not only does this freshen up any space, but it also is easy on the checkbook. Just walk out into your backyard and take some clippings of interesting foliage. It can be hostas and ferns….even some weeds from the ditch can create a beautiful display.

I love how these bud vases pop against the brown texture of the wicker and my arrow wall art.

I tried to pick out interesting foliage. Some leaves are curly, some have beautiful curves. A few have dainty leaves and various shades of green.

And, I have to say, these Ainsley bud vases do not disappoint. I was pretty giddy when I opened this happy mail! These vases are offered from a sister company of Wayfair, Birch Lane. The glass is thick and has a green tint to it. I was reminded of vintage glass bottles when I first laid eyes on them. I also love that each bud vase has its own unique character.

They can be grouped together like above or …..

displayed with just one bud vase and a simple fern stem. I also love the fact that you receive 6 of them! Um…yes…SIX OF THEM. If you preferred to display them all separately you could have fresh cut flowers in every room of your home. How is that for versatility?

I hope I inspired you to take a stroll through your backyard or neighborhood and grab some fresh greenery to bring into your home. I love how these simple touches brought in that much needed pop of color for my summer mantel.

Which is your favorite way to display bud vases?

Do you want to enjoy a pop of color in your home this summer but don't want to break the bank doing it? This is a simple summer mantel showcasing Mother Nature's greenery from your backyard and some gorgeous Birch Lane bud vases from Wayfair.

I was compensated by Wayfair for this post. All opinions about bringing the outdoors in, Mother Nature being the master of design, and green as my favorite pop of color are my own.

Follow Your Arrow

Follow your arrow wherever it points. There is quite a bit of meaning packed into that sentence.

For me, when the straight and narrow gets a little too straight, I like to put on my creative hat and get lost in what I love! So, most of the time, my arrow points to my work space…and to the beach!

I am sharing 8 fabulous DIY arrow projects with you today. And you have got to see how I styled my summer mantel.

DIY rustic arrow wall art

My friend Ashley created these simple rustic wall arrows. They look great in the nursery don’t they? My youngest sister is expecting her first little munchkin and she is always looking for simple & easy ways to make an impact on her walls. Because ain’t nobody got time for complicated projects especially with a new baby in the house. Right?

If you’ve already started your family and are looking for some super cute arrows, these will record growth spurts and milestones. The kiddos will have such fun looking back at how they have grown. You have got to create one of these for your home. They grow so fast!

Another place my arrow has been pointing me towards lately is pallets. Although, my husband rolls his eyes at me when he is attempting to pull apart the pieces with a crowbar in one hand and hammer in the other. I bet he is thinking he would like to take a crowbar to my head for coming up with such a crazy idea! Do you know how many nails are in these things? A crazy amount. But, the wood looks so fabulous in projects like this DIY wood pallet arrow. And how about that gallery wall, huh?

homestead house milk paint in sherwood brown as a stain for DIY rustic arrow wall art

If pulling apart pallet wood is just not your thing, I love this rustic word art. The easiest way to create an instant gallery wall! Just print and hang. And if you are a bit crafty, well…. give these old sign stencils a try. I am loving them so much. Shhh…I ordered every single one!!

Now, I gotta tell ya…I truly feel that everyone has a crafty side to them. Sometimes I hear ‘oh, I am just not the crafty type’. So, then I take the opportunity to share a fun little business that I love. One such business is the Rustic Nest who specializes in making things… like arrows! Oh, and if you need that little bit of inspiration to help you click that purchase button-check out this kitchen! The arrow looks so good there doesn’t it?

I feel I have to share one more place my arrow points me daily! It is a cherished place I go when I want inspiration, laughs, and cries. The posts that remind me that I can follow my arrow wherever it points…whether it be chalkboard walls, chevron chairs or white arrows!

Now, go make lots of noise and follow the arrow over to the tutorial on how to make rustic style arrow art .

Style Shelves Like A Pro

Hey readers. I am sharing some tips to style shelves like a pro.

We have all ooo’d and ahhh’d over perfectly styled shelves in magazines and on Pinterest. Well, maybe I just have.

It is confession time. I have struggled with the process in the past.

But, now I can say with confidence that I have shelves I am proud of!

I wanted to share my version of perfectly styled shelves with you and also some tips that I have learned from a fellow blogger.

Studying magazines helps a bit too.

Are you stuck trying to figure out how to style your shelves? These simple tips will have you styling your shelves like a pro!

style your shelves like a pro

Tips to style shelves like a pro:

Contrast & Cohesiveness

This is the perfect time to show off your collection of white dishes. I love the contrast of gray with white. The look is crisp, clean, and beachy. If you have the same color pieces such as white, make sure they are not all the same style. Even though the dishes are all white, let them have different shapes and textures to them. This will give your eyes a chance to wander around your shelves looking at the uniqueness of each piece while having that cohesiveness of the same color palette.

styling shelves like a professional

Depth

I have learned through trial and error that you need to start at the back and work your way to the front. Platters work the best in the back because they add dimension to the space. I kept the platters white to stay cohesive, but yet their shape is different and they have softer edges.

styling shelves like a pro

First layer

The next crucial concept I learned was to layer. Everything looks better in decor when it is layered. It creates a ‘collected over time’ feel. You definitely want this ‘feel’ when styling shelves. The first layer doesn’t have to be much as I show above, but it adds another element in size and texture as well.

styling shelves like a pro

Texture

This is a key element. If I had all white dishes and nothing else in this space it would not be pleasing to the eye. The texture of the faux coral gives the shelves more dimension and your brain says…’let me go touch it’. It plays to our senses. And notice that the coral is yet another layer.

styling shelves like a pro

Create a sense of warmth

The last thing you want is a sterile looking space. Which brings me to warmth. Wood. I love incorporating worn wood into my shelving displays. Again, it brings in that collected over time feel and another layer of texture. Space the wood pieces throughout the shelving. These collected pieces will also be conversation starters when entertaining or just reminiscing about those great flea market finds.

Vertical display

Another element I like to incorporate is stacking or vertical display. As you can see above I placed the old books for texture and warmth, then added a white compote on top. It is always good practice to make sure not to over do this element. Just keep it as simple as possible.

Finishing touches

Finishing touches is the very last element before taking a step back and admiring your styled shelves! These can be anything from a few vintage keys to a string of beads. It is that last layer with a few fun elements to bring it all together.

Two tone painted card catalog

Card catalogs. They are one of my favorite furniture pieces. I love all the little cubbies to fill. I found one at a local university surplus store a year ago and it has been waiting to be transformed into a show piece. I knew I wanted a two tone painted card catalog. I just needed to decide what color. We have been making some small updates to the basement. I only have one window in the entire space, so I knew the walls needed to be white. It has really brightened up the space so it is not so “dungeon-like”.

So, this was the perfect time to dress up my found card catalog.

two tone painted card catalog

Hello is right. I am so happy with how it turned out. Here is the before picture of it.

vintage card catalog

So, the even more exciting part of all this is that I used Old Fashioned Milk Paint on this piece. And, it was so easy to do. I have to say that I was a bit nervous about mixing the powder, but really there was nothing to worry about. It was so simple!

old fashioned milk paint co

I shared this little sneak peek of happy mail over on Instagram the other day. I would love for you to follow along there if you have an account. It is a little part of Dandelion Patina where I share sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes pics.

Instructions:

You simply measure out a few tablespoons of powder and water to a nice consistency of thinned out cake batter. You don’t want it runny, but thick enough to resemble paint. You also need to add your bonding agent if you want the paint to adhere and not have the “chippy” look.

white and black card catalog

One coat did give me enough coverage. This was about two tablespoons! Yup, I did say two tablespoons.

I was completely amazed! I have enough powder for about 4 of these babies! I then sealed the piece with Daddy Van’s Beeswax and Lavender Furniture Polish. This stuff is amazing! It is easy to apply and a little goes a long way! Plus, an added perk is that it smells like lavender…like the real deal. The room was filled with the fragrance of lavender fields! So yummy, if you like the fragrance of lavender.

I then picked out a few black and white patterns from scrapbook paper to create some fun on the drawer fronts.
