Farmhouse Nest Basket

I will be sharing a simple & crafty farmhouse style inspired party favor today. A farmhouse nest basket.

I love creating special mementos for baby showers when I get the chance. It is a special occasion to get that creative energy flowing. This little baby shower party favor screams cuteness with a farmhouse style flair. They also would be perfect sitting at each guests table setting as well. You could personalize these in unique ways with a simple gift tag as well. The possibilities are endless.

  • Once your nesting material is selected and placed you will need to embellish your pot.

It is that simple.

I really like the vintage feel of the typography paper. You could even get a copy of previous newspaper birth announcements from the family and use those as your decoupage paper.

These are super sweet and fairly inexpensive to create.

They also work well for decorating in the spring time.

Place on a cute little shelf in the home or use in a centerpiece on the table. They would be sweet in a nursery as well.

IKEA Rast Hack

Hello friends! Today I am sharing my very first IKEA Rast Hack. I am so excited that it actually turned out!

What can I say? I do love me some great shopping at IKEA. So, when our family travels down to Naperville, IL to visit relatives I make sure that I have my ‘to buy’ list ready. I also try have a strategic plan all laid out on the building map.

Yes, our family needs a map with a plan. There is way too much stuff eye candy in IKEA. We have to stay on task.

Otherwise, the kiddos get halfway through the first floor and are ready for that yummy hot dog & ice cream!

With a list of what we need, we can make it into a treasure hunt for the kids and shopping goes way smoother….until we get to the stuffed animal bins and disco lights! Oy vey!

One of the pieces that was on my list for the next shopping trip was the IKEA Rast chest. I love to buy pieces that I can transform in some way.

This is the beauty of IKEA products. They are just waiting for you to put your unique stamp on them.

An opportunity to turn the ordinary into extraordinary.

Which brings me to….paint sticks.

They are rather ordinary and utilitarian.

But, when paired with the IKEA Rast and some chunky hardware-well, ooh la la!

It is like finding that fabulous outfit and the coordinating accessories to turn heads!

Instructions for constructing this IKEA Rast Hack:

First 5 steps:

1. Cut and nail flat trim to the drawers and sides of chest.

2. Cut and nail a 1×4 to the bottom front.

3. Cut and nail screen trim to the top.

4. Fill knob holes with wood filler, let dry, sand

5. Paint entire piece. I used chalk paint. Specifically, CeCe Caldwell, but any chalk paint in a gray finish will create this look.

Next 5 steps:

6. Cut & stain your paint sticks, along with the top 1×4’s (which will create a tray). I used a combo of Minwax Golden Oak with Walnut.

7. Nail paint sticks to drawers and sides of chest.

8. Seal the entire piece with poly.

9. Add your hardware pulls and attach the top tray with L-brackets.

10. Accessorize.

So, do you look at paint sticks differently?

I found these at Menards. They are not your typical paint sticks and my head is spinning with more DIY ideas for these babies!

Contributor: Cupcake Liner Wreath

I wanted to share a fun DIY project that was inspired by my 7 year old daughter who loves to bake a cupcake or two.

It seems she is always coming up with concoctions in the kitchen. I am always purchasing new cupcake liners.

Our kitchen is always a few degrees warmer than the rest of our home! Now, with warmer temperatures on the rise outdoors, this brings a desire to infuse some color into the home.

Wondering what you can do to infuse a bit of color in your home?

Here is a rather sweet cupcake liner wreath…

Free Printable Welcome Spring

Who doesn’t love fresh flowers? Running to the floral shop has become a ritual for me. Every week I go on a search for a fresh flower arrangement. I used to be able to just walk into the backyard and pick a nice bouquet. But, somehow being busy with kiddos and life doesn’t leave a whole lot of time to tend to the flower gardens….or get a pedi….or finish that recommended book.

But, somehow, no matter how exhausted I am walking around in the floral shop seems to inspire me. I walk out of the shop re-energized with a smile on my face.

Today, I want to share a few of my favorite Spring vignettes and my hope is to inspire you to hop on over to the floral shop and find a bouquet that makes your home happy. I also hope you will take some time for you today….print off a printable from some of my favorite bloggers and create a vignette on your mantel or a centerpiece on your table. Just take time to enjoy the simple things….like pedicures or finishing that book!free printable welcome spring

First up on my list of favorites: You really have to pop over to her blog and experience all of the fabulous elements. One photo just doesn’t do this dining room justice.

Second, I love this fresh and bright centerpiece from Kristin over at Yellow Bliss Road. There is just something about lemons and tulips full of sunshine!

Now, let’s talk about this springtime vignette. Oh my. I can’t seem to pick a favorite piece and this girl can style a room, vignette, and chalkboard like no one can!

And now for a bit of whimsy. I love this floral arrangement almost as much as I love my Starbucks caramel macchiato! Such a fun element adding the carrots. It definitely will be a conversation starter.

Here are the supplies to get you started:

Lia Griffith’s shamrock paper printables

Mini terra cotta pots

Mini moss balls

Florist stem wire

Hot glue gun

This is what your printables will look like fresh off the printer. I recommend using cardstock.

shamrock topiaries

I originally had green/white baker’s twine, but I preferred a thicker twine after the topiaries were put together.

shamrock topiary tutorial

Hot glue your moss ball to the terra cotta pot.

Cut your stem wire to the desired size of the stem you would like. I varied my stem lengths.

Use a pencil to curl the stem wire, then push into the moss ball.
