Painted Wood Plank Wall Reveal

finished wood plank wall

A few weeks back we started a wood plank wall DIY in our dinette area. I am here to reveal the finished product!

It was a fairly simple process with the tongue and groove boards. Once the entire wall was completed with planks we needed trim on the corner. I wanted a chunky look, so we bought base boards to attach at the corner.

Now the fun begins-painting the area. I used Coastal Fog by Benjamin Moore in Regal Pearl. The color choice is part of Benjamin Moore’s Classic Color Collection. I have learned over the years to use colors on walls that are timeless. This neutral canvas is a springboard for whatever color combination suits you. It gives you more flexibility in changing out accessories and patterns. Colorful accessories can give just as much wow factor as bold and bright walls. And let’s face it, with limited time on our hands…changing out a few pillows is much easier than cleaning out a room to paint the walls.

Side note on color:

I just recently painted our dining room in Nantucket Fog by Benjamin Moore. I was drawn to the blue gray tone on the paint chip. As I painted the sample on the walls, I was still on board. But, now that all 4 walls are painted in it-I have to say it is just too much blue in this room. So, hindsight is always 20/20, but I think I would go for this color in accents; maybe some wall art {which I may do now that I have a whole 1/2 gallon left}.

Lighting plays a huge part in how the chosen paint color will look in a room at various times of the day as well. Make sure you sample the color on each wall. But, even after you do all this {as I did} it still may not be the right fit. You win some, you lose some.

Here are a few other wood plank wall DIY projects that I just adore.

This wall from Carrie @ Lovely, Etc. is fabulous in my opinion. I love the dry brush technique and the colors she chose.

Instructions for creating a bird nest woven with charm:

    • First, I formed the shell of the nest with the decorative excelsior-leaving a hollow in the middle for my terra cotta saucer.
    • Then, I placed the saucer into the middle securing the shell of the nest in place.
    • I added the floral moss over the top of the saucer.

Instructions for chalk painted eggs:

  • Grab your walnuts. I used 3.
  •  I painted the walnuts in ASCP Duck Egg Blue
  • Let dry.
  • Wax

That is it! This is a very simple inexpensive way to bring the charm of a woven bird nest into your home décor vignette for spring.

vintage urn

I gathered a concrete urn and placed a skeleton key at the top with some Bakers twine.

I love the pattern and texture these feathers bring.

The color of the twine plays off the color in the walnut eggs.

walnut eggs

A view of the details of the nest. Not your typical blue eggs. But, I love the funky texture and unexpected use of the walnuts.
